BETWEEN VENETO AND TRENTINO, GREAT WINES AND ORGANIC TASTE
From the hills of Valpolicella to the vineyards of Vallagarina, a journey into the taste of the oenological excellence: from Amarone to Trentodoc with a look at organic and biodynamic wines.
Day 1 | Land of Amarone, the land of DOP extra virgin olive oil
The day begins kilometres north of Verona, surrounded by the hilly landscape of Valpolicella designation, cradle of the renowned Amarone DOCG, a land rich in enogastronomic excellence and strong cultural footprint. The visit begins in an Amarone winery, in the eastern portion of the territory of the Valpolicella designation, followed by a stop at the Wine Museum, showcasing agricultural and oenological work from the end of the 18th to the beginning of the 19th century. A special tasting of Amarone will conclude the historical-cultural experience of the morning.
Next up, lunch in a typical restaurant in eastern Valpolicella, whose pristine hilly landscape engenders unique feelings. The afternoon will be dedicated to the discovery of green gold, namely, DOP Veneto Valpolicella extra virgin olive oil, with a visit to an olive mill to discover oil processing techniques. The day will end with dinner in a restaurant with typical dishes of Veronese culture. To end the day with a bang, we spend the night in one of the beautiful facilities immersed in the wonderful hills of eastern Valpolicella, in the name of relaxation and wellness.
Day 2 | Recioto and Marzemino, a look at organic products
On the second day, after we leave the eastern region, we continue with a visit and tasting session in a classic Valpolicella winery. Here, we will discover, through the passionate narration of producers, the production techniques of Amarone, including the special drying technique (appassimento) which allows the production of Valpolicella Ripasso, and appreciate the wine’s special properties through a series of guided tasting sessions. At the end of the day, lunch in a typical restaurant in Valpolicella, prior to heading off to Trentino. The trip from one area to another is short, but the landscape, in the meantime, changes its face: mountains become closer and increasingly more impressive, and on the horizon, the Dolomites, a World Heritage Site of UNESCO, begin to appear. The first stop is in the area of Rovereto, in Vallagarina, the southern gate to Trentino, where glorious vineyard opens up in front of our eyes; this is a land of reds - like the Marzemino Trentino DOC - but also of sparkling spumante. And it will be bubbles, indeed, to open the dances, with a guided tour of a Trentodoc winery, home to the classic spumante method. Next up, we will dip into innovation, with a visit to a winery that produces organic and biodynamic wines, alternative oenological proposals that respect the environment. Our dinner will be accompanied by a relaxing and warm atmosphere and enhanced by a careful selection of local products. Overnight in a charming accommodation from where we can admire the Vallagarina landscape.
Day 3 | Trentodoc and Teroldego, pure Trentino style
New day, new Trentodoc bubbles, but in a winery located a little further north, in the hilly area of Trento, traditionally devoted to the production of mountain spumante. Thereafter, we pay a visit to the “city of the Council”, between history and architecture, though travelling on a path that enhances the “wine” theme. At the end of the walk, an aperitif in pure Trentino style in one of the capital’s most popular wine bars, followed by lunch in a typical restaurant.
In the afternoon, we will head north, to Piana Rotaliana, called “the most beautiful vineyard garden in Europe”, to discover one of its most prominent products: the Teroldego Rotaliano DOC. And to fully enjoy the local culture, we will stop at the “Museum of Customs and Traditions of the People of Trentino”, the largest Italian regional museum devoted to folk traditions, including agriculture, crafts, religiosity, music and folklore.
